HAPPY YEAR OF THE FIRE PIG!!!

First, let me say it’s not every day you get to use the words “fire” and “pig” in the same sentence . . . unless, of course, you happen to be describing an event consisting of fire twirlers and beautiful, tan ladies donning grass skirts and coconut bras . . . but, I digress . . .

I try to stay on top of my Chinese astrology. What do I know? Well, I’m a DOG. That means I’m supposedly loyal, reliable, trustworthy, honest, intelligent, etc. etc. etc. Deadly accurate, I must say! I also know that this year, the year of the PIG, is supposed to be a good year for me . . . not very good and apparently not the best, but just – good! I suppose I can live with that. Go Pigs!

All astrological astonishment aside, for me when it comes to the Chinese New Year it’s truly all about the food! And dim sum! For many of us westerners our first dim sum can be an intimidating and often frightening experience. You can almost rest assured,though, that after your first dim sum experience those previous visions of sugarplums in your dreams will be replaced with visions of steamed pork buns and egg custard desserts. Ok, perhaps I’m exaggerating – but, not by much!

So, today, in honor of the Chinese New Year I went with a friend to a wonderful dim sum brunch! As usual, I ordered way more than I could eat but the food was delicious! The restaurant was

crowded and it was a little bit strange to hear everybody saying “happy new year” in February, but it was nice – I interpreted those new year wishes to mean – “it’s okay, Brian, if you didn’t start your new years resolution to run and swim everyday on January 1 . . . start it today . . . relax – you DOG!”
