nyc wedding!

•January 26, 2008 • 2 Comments

In a previous posting I mentioned that I was recently in New York City to photograph a wedding – an amazing wedding at what was undoubtedly one of the most stunning wedding venues I’ve seen in my life! The name of the venue is the Angel Orensanz Center. Built in 1849 it is the oldest standing synagogue in New York! It is also well known because it is the venue where Sarah Jessica Parker married Matthew Broderick.

The wedding was nothing short of stunning! The venue was obviously beautiful and everyone at the wedding was incredibly nice and welcoming. I was already friends with the mother of the bride because we had taken photography workshops together in Tuscany a couple of years ago.

I had a great time! Here are a few images from the wedding … enjoy …

As I continue to work on several “human” photography projects (which I will be sharing very soon), I just had to post some pic’s I took this week of my friends’ family’s newest addition.

Her name is “Ellie.” She’s a French Bulldog and she’s even cuter in person, if you can believe it. And she’s a comedian, too. Ellie tried to act brave with Marley, but all it took was a look from Mar and she would head for the hills. She would bark … occasionally … and from afar. We’ll get them together again soon – I think they’ll be buds soon.

Is she a cutie or is she cutie?

Happy New Year!

Ok, yes I know I’m exactly 14 days late – but, it’s the thought that counts, right? Again, I must fall back on the popular excuse these days – been busy . . . yadda, yadda, yadda . . . blah, blah, blah . . .

However, I had the most amazing trip to New York City on January 3. I was there for nearly a week to shoot an absolutely amazing wedding in the heart of the city. I’ll be posting a few pictures from that wedding soon (along with many other recent sessions), but in the meantime please enjoy this horrific image of me skating in Bryant Park the day I left New York (thanks, An!). Would you believe I was literally flying around the rink at the moment this image was captured? If you said “no”, then you’ve obviously seen me skate. No fair! Ok, so three-year olds were skating by me and leaving me in their wake. Brian Boitano I am not but I am very proud to say that I stayed on my skates the entire time and my butt remained ice/moisture/pain-free the entire hour! I was quite proud of myself, needless to say.

When I arrived in the city it was 16 degrees. By the time I left the temperature had climbed to a “still very cold to Brian” 62 degrees! I was actually breaking a sweat skating around this tiny little rink. Ok, perhaps the lather was predominantly stress-induced but I was sweating, nonetheless.

I promise, more blog updates to come soon. So much has happened – several AMAZING photography sessions, a new car, some fantastic gift ideas from the holidays that I must share, etc.

Whew! It’s going to be a very busy 2008, I can already tell!

I can’t believe Thanksgiving has come and gone . . . and Christmas is literally just around the corner. Where did 2007 go?

I’m very excited, though, because 2008 is going to be a great year! I can feel it! Lots of exciting changes to come, so stay tuned!

If you like cute pups then you’ve come to the right place. I recently shot some pictures for some close friends of their family’s “new addition.” Here are a few pictures of Berkeley with his “new” cousin, Maggie. Enjoy . . .

… comp card session …

•December 2, 2007 • Leave a Comment

Here are a few shots I shot recently for Allison’s new Comp Cards. Comp Cards (or, ZED Cards as some people call them) are cards used by print models – kind of like a resume. The card showcases different “looks” as well as the model’s clothing sizes, height, etc.

I do these sessions from time to time and I really enjoy them – especially when I get to work with a seasoned pro like Allie!

She’s got more personality at her young age than most people have in their little finger! And what an awesome person, too! Not only is she a great student, but she’s initiated a recycling program for her class at school! And what did she want for her birthday? Most girls want dolls, toys, a puppy . . . Allie asked for an ‘environmentally conscious’ bedroom – bamboo floors and the works!!! This kid ROCKS! :-)

… austin photo session …

•November 29, 2007 • Leave a Comment

In my last posting I mentioned that I’ve been busy doing several photo sessions over the past few weeks – a few weddings and a few of what I call “Lifestyle” sessions. I consider Lifestyle sessions to be anything portrait-related which doesn’t fall into my “Wedding” or “Exploration” categories. Oh, and Explorations include travel photography, personal documentary projects and charitable projects.

As part of a recent journey to the west coast I stopped in Austin, Texas to photograph a very good friend along with her mom and sister. I absolutely LOVE Austin! If you’ve never been you should put it high on your list of places to visit! We had a BLAST! Anyway, here’s a shot we got of them right in front of my friend’s house. Lucky girls – look at their mom . . . must feel good knowing you’re pretty much guaranteed a wrinkle-free future! :-)

… it’s been too long …

•November 25, 2007 • Leave a Comment

I can’t believe it’s been so long since my last post! Ugh! The squirrel in my last post is probably all grown-up and in his third year of ’squirrel’ med school!

It’s good to be back, though. You do, of course realize what a lack of blog posts means . . . I’ve been a busy, busy boy. And this case is no exception. With fall comes a relentless influx of photography jobs – and that makes me very happy! Any time I’m doing photography I am happy.

One of the more recent weddings I photographed was a fun couple from Indianapolis. They came to Orlando for a destination wedding. One of the cool(er) aspects of this wedding was the fact that some of the attendees were from a town in Indiana called West Lafayette. Those who are really “in the know” would know that West Lafayette is the home of Purdue University, home for my freshman year of college.

Midwestern people are, without question, some of the nicest people on the planet. And this wedding did nothing to discourage me from that point-of-view.

Here is one of my favorite images from the wedding – shot just seconds after Jason saw Deb in her wedding gown for the first time . . . very cool!

So, I’m in my kitchen this morning, making my daily coffee . . . and I hear a shrill squealing coming from my back patio. I look outside and a baby squirrel had apparently been knocked from its nest and was clinging onto my back porch screen for dear life.

At first I let him/her be, but after I didn’t hear from him/her for a while I admit I became a little concerned (what can I say, I’m an animal lover – to a fault, probably). I eventually headed outside to see if he/she was still around. Sure enough, the little thing was hanging on for dear life as before, but was falling asleep at the top of the screen from the exhaustion of the big morning it had just experienced. The squirrel kind of reminded me of myself – sometimes nodding off in front of my computer screen after editing photography jobs for hours on end . . . . . . . I felt an immediate bond with this little rodent.

To make a long story short (I’m trying), I ended up putting the squirrel in a shoe box, did my good deed for the day and took him/her to the veterinarian. I was pretty amazed to learn that a veterinarian would actually accept the squirrel as a “patient” and nurse it until it was healthy enough to be released. Pretty awesome of them, don’t you think?

Here’s a picture of the little guy/girl:

Again, I face the shame of not having delivered a blog entry in quite some time. Sorry. But, believe me it’s not for lack of effort. I’m a busy man these days!

This past weekend I photographed a wedding in Sarasota, Florida with fellow photographer, Heather Ahrens. We had a blast despite the intense Florida heat and humidity! The bride, groom and entire group were a lot of fun to be around! Here are a few images from the big day . . .

. . . enjoy . . .

portrait documentary … kai

Another busy week begins . . . I can’t believe it’s already August!  I’m bracing myself for the premature onslaught of Christmas commercials which should begin to arrive in, oh, say about a month!

This past week I wrapped-up a portrait documentary session with a little guy named Kai!  Hard to believe he’s only six months old!  I love photographing kids because you’re practically guaranteed to get about 100 different expressions within an hour.  These are a few of his more “introspective” shots from our session!  ;-)

Oh, and on a completely separate subject – two enthusiastic thumbs-up on the Fox scale for the new Transformers movie!  Saw it this past weekend.  Really cool pic!
